Microsoft’s platform has improved from the previous month

Net Applications is one of the research firms that everyone’s put their faith in when it comes to market share statistics for desktop operating systems, so it’s only natural to have a look at the numbers the very same company provides for the mobile market, isn’t it?

According to data for the month of August 2015, Android is the leading mobile platform in the world with a share of 52.14 percent, followed by iOS with 40.82 percent.

Windows Phone is obviously third with 2.60 percent, but from 2.51 percent the month before and 2.29 percent in June 2015.

This might not seem much, but for Windows Phone, this increase is quite a big achievement, especially given the fact that no software updates and new devices have been released in the last few months. Microsoft is fully focused on improving Windows 10 Mobile ahead of its public debut next month, so Windows Phone is more or less neglected these days.

Net Applications’ data goes in line with mobile share figures from other companies, so they are probably accurate, given the fact that everyone says Windows Phone currently holds a share of about 3 percent.

The big question, however, is how this is going to change when Windows 10 Mobile gets the go-ahead next month and what are the chances to see Microsoft becoming a powerful rival to Android and iOS. Time will tell.
