Microsoft’s personal assistant’s causing issues on our PCs

Cortana is one of the key features that Microsoft introduced in Windows 10, but contrary to what many people and the company itself expected, the personal assistant isn’t working really smoothly and in several cases, it causes issues that are basically ruining the experience with the new OS.

It’s no secret that some Windows 10 adopters can’t use Cortana at all, simply because the personal assistant doesn’t launch, but now we’ve come across another issue that seems to prevent us from restoring a PC running the new OS.

After many BSODs and errors caused by drivers that were not compatible with Windows 10 (and yet, Microsoft shipped the upgrade to one of our PCs), we decided to try and restore the computer to a previous state in a desperate attempt to get rid of software changes that broke down something in our config.

The only problem is that one of Cortana’s files appears to be blocking the restore, and no matter what we tried, nothing seems to make a difference. Most likely, these files are corrupt and cannot be extracted from the restore point, but imagine how hard it can be for a regular user to fix this.

Cortana is clearly the kind of feature that’s supposed to make our lives easier by taking care of important things for us, but in some cases, it becomes the pain in the neck that everyone wants to get rid of.

Truth is it can really be helpful at some point, but Microsoft urgently needs to take care of the problems it causes. Otherwise, it’s hard to believe Cortana has a future on the PC.
