The Big Fix

Once in while it happens that the installation of a certain component on which depends the functioning of an application or of several software solutions seems to be completed successfully, but instead some malfunctions occur.

Identifying and fixing such mishaps is a difficult job, but there are means of carrying out this task quite quickly, especially if the issues are related to audio or video filters and codecs. Besides the tools specialized in diagnosing the problems, there are numerous patches and fixes that apply to various scenarios.

The Big Fix is one such piece of kit and it aims to cover a broad range of issues and it offers a quick way of repairing most of those that are DivX related. There is no graphical interface to this utility, so everything has to be selected from the installer that starts when the executable is deployed.

The extended scope of this program becomes evident when the users are asked to choose the fixes that they want to apply. Thus, The Big Fix is able to enable or disable XP AVI Properties Handler, remove the G400, the Bicubic Resize, the DivX Anti-freeze or the DivX filters.

The FFDShow codec can be set to handle DivX files, this option can be deactivated or the decoder can be erased from the system altogether. The same functions are available with regard to the 3viX decoder.

There are some more particular issues that can be mended with The Big Fix and these include AC3 filter problems, MPEG2 filters and codecs, DV codecs and even multimedia drivers with their corresponding registry entries and INI files.

Once the necessary selections are made, with a single click the application can be put to work and all the checked fixes will be applied momentarily.
