Altova XMLSpy Professional Edition

Altova XMLSpy Professional is an editing tool and integrated development environment (IDE) for XML (Extensible Markup Language) files. It can be used for modeling, transforming and debugging software relying on XML technology.

It incorporates all the necessary tools for working with applications that use XML, XML Schema XSLT and XQuery.

The main screen of the package is blank at the beginning, but for evaluation purposes there is a set of demo files the user can work with in order to check the available capabilities.

Included in the bunch are expense reports, portable XML forms, SPS designs, purchase orders, XBRL examples, EPUB examples, XQuery sets and HTML5 files.

XMLSpy can work with databases generated by Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, IBM DB2, Informix, Sybase and Microsoft Access.

Among the features present in the development suite there is evaluation of XPath expressions, specifying an error limit for XML Schema validation, conversion of DTDs (document type definition) as well as optimization of very large files.

The layout of the application is pretty intuitive and users can easily pick the necessary tools for using on the current project. The frequently used options (transformation, spell-checking, validation, checking for well-formedness, etc.) are available within easy reach.

Under the “Tools” menu users can access the scripting editor as well as utilities for folder comparison. There is also the possibility to add quick access to instruments that are already installed on the system.
