Windy - Window Manager

Working with a lot of active window quickly fills your workspace, and if some have size limitations or requirements, things get even more dicey. Luckily, developers came out with ingenious applications like Windy - Window Manager to help you quickly resize target windows in order to neatly organize your desktop space.

The application directly goes to the tray area, with a small balloon tooltip that shows the default hotkey to use in order to bring up the main window. This can also be done by interacting with the associated tray icon. However, pressing the trigger again doesn’t minimize it again, which can easily become frustrating.

With the interface up, you can see all opened windows on your computer, even if they’re minimized. In case the list is too crowded, there’s a search field you can use to identify either an entire source, such as multiple instances, or a single target by full name. Clicking an item immediately brings up its corresponding window.

Window resizing is done manually, since there aren’t any preset size specifications to choose from. Sadly, nor can you save any, and you have to configure the location every time. There’s a box pattern on which you easily draw the amount of space you want the new window to take, with options applied in real time.

However, the default grid is merely enough to help out in situations where your desktop is too crowded. Keeping the application’s main window up for too long can quickly steal focus right in the middle of your tasks, but there’s a built-in option to get the interface automatically minimized when not used.

All things considered, we come to the conclusion that Windy - Window Manager doesn’t really bring anything new on the block, and the features it comes with don’t make it rank among the top. Sure enough, it’s visually appealing, but with no preset size options and the requirement to manually use the pattern each time has a significant impact on overall practicality.
