Audio files such as songs or effects are usually bundled with custom encoders to preserve and deliver high quality. You might, however, need different parameters when using files in your projects. On the bright side of things, there are various applications like Sprokit which let you adjust various parameters on several types of audio files.

You’re not even taken through a setup process to make the application work. What this means, on the one hand, is that you can see what it’s all about as soon as download is done, while making it possible to have it stored on a USB flash drive to always have an audio processing tool at hand. Registry entries are not affected in the process.

The interface holds most controls you need in order to specify the new parameters. You can save them as presets to later on apply them a lot easier to more files. Sadly, you can only process a file at a time, which needs to be under a format like WAV, AIF, or OGG. It’s loaded through the browse dialog, with drag and drop not a valid operation here.

Note, however, that once the audio file loads, the process starts to edit the file based on the preset controls. This means that you first need to take your time to set the new values, which are displayed as several sliders for volume, equalizer, spectrum density, delay, gain, number of channels, and a few more.

These are not all parameters though, with the application letting you handle a lot more quality settings inside the configuration window. These take you through offset, resolution, BW synthesis, max frequency drift, threshold, vector distance, and more. Sadly, there’s no built-in preview section, so you never know what you obtain unless you process a file.

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that Sprokit comes with good intentions, and does offer quite the variety of quality settings to manage. Sadly, there’s no preview mode, while file support leaves out some of the most popular types.
