When you buy a new LCD monitor, you expect it to perform flawlessly, so you might not even think about checking it for dead or stuck pixels. However, when you do want to make sure your monitor is still in great shape, you can use Dead Pixel Buddy.

The application does not need to be installed on your computer, so you can simply carry it on your USB flash drive and check the status of monitors connected to any PC you work on.

Dead Pixel Buddy features an intuitive graphic interface that requires users to only choose the colors they want to use for their test.

The way the app works is quite simple: it basically fills the screen with the color selected by you, thus making any dead or stuck pixel clearly visible. It is recommended to experiment with several colors, as you might not notice the broken pixels from the first attempt - you can go with one of the default colors (black, white, red, green or blue) or you can specify a custom one.

You can also set Dead Pixel Buddy to automatically switch between colors as often as you like - just modify the Time Cycle value and you are set.

The difference between a broken and a dead pixel is that the former can still be fixed, after repeatedly rotating the colors, whereas there is no solution for the latter. You can either buy a new monitor or gradually get used to the dead pixel, especially if it is not located in the center of the screen.
