    FILIP TRUTA
I'm Filip. My friends call me Filip. I cover the Mac / Apple section for Softpedia with everything from short blog posts to detailed software reviews and Personal Thoughts entries.

I try to make a read-worthy story out of anything that has an 'i' in front of it, and I appreciate vocal readers who can't wait to give me a piece of their mind in the comments.

When I don't write about iPods and Macs, I find pleasure in just about anything that piques my creative interests. Sports is on my everyday agenda as well.

Hey, I’m Iulian Claudiu Pascal. Computers and all the wonderful things one can do with them have been my passion since high-school. Despite having studied mainly computer science in highschool, I somehow changed direction and continued my studies in Civil Engineering.

Yet, because the shortest route from A to B is the one you know, I took a guess and now I’m coming back full-speed.

With Softpedia I feel like I have a second chance to continue my journey on the IT track, and even more than this, because I really love what I do, I’m doing my best to help cover the Drivers section, so that you can download and enjoy high-quality material.

What can I say? I like Linux a lot and I love Softpedia even more, since early 2005, when I joined the team. You can witness my hard work on the Linux section and the corresponding news category. I'm a huge supporter of the open source ideology and community.

My journey into the wonderful world of open source began somewhere in the year 2000, when I bought my first PC and installed Mandrake Linux 8.2 (now known as Mandriva) and Red Hat 6.2 from CDs found in a local Linux magazine.

Since then, I've tested hundreds of Linux distros and even some BSD flavors. I am a "self-taught" person, and my current goal is to "coach" others in the ways of Linux, bringing them all the hot news and apps.

My favorite distro and main operating system is Ubuntu, which I use daily both at work and at home. In my spare time I like to think a little more different, and discover the Mac OS X operating system.

I'm a part of Softpedia's "mobile division" since 2005 by reporting on the latest handset launches and rumors as well as interesting events in the mobile world. I also contribute to our extensive phones and handheld devices database.

My hobbies include fantasy literature, Dungeons & Dragons and Miniatures, Magic the Gathering and lots and lots of RPG games. I don’t have a basement yet, but my 750+ D&D miniatures collection watches me from every corner of my living room.

I am not one to go to great lengths to build some sophisticated characterization. There really is nothing overly incredible to report about my life (really! I am not saying it just to reorient your attention from the awesome stuff). Suffice to say, I am a 24 year-old guy with a better than average grasp of English who can type fast and avoids typos most of the time.

I've been with Softpedia for over two years now, during which I got to see a lot of things happen, particularly on the technological side of the worldwide industry, since that's my focus here. If someone asked me for my favorite sort of news, I'd say it's when someone comes up with something either really unusual, like a robotic roach for instance, or when something really revolutionary gets invented, like a super chip or means to capture solar energy. more >>

I’m a geek at the core, though it wasn’t until a few years ago that I showed myself to the world as such. You can also call me Captain Obvious: there’s an abundance of applications available on the web today. It’s a tough job, but I try to get the good the bad and the truth out of them, whether their makers like it or not. For the readers.

Among my awesome powers is the ability to translate boisterously worded software features into layman terms anyone can easily understand. I cover news about new releases to this purpose. Should a program be worthy of closer scrutiny, I put in balance its weaknesses and strong points to reveal its true nature.

Hobbies include the geeky stuff you’d expect, plus movies, games and everything that might be covered under the umbrella of "fun".

Born an optimist, I never lose my faith no matter the odds. When I’m not spending my time surfing the web or playing like a fanatic some 3rd person action adventure game, photography and music composition come into play. Recently I discovered a new passion – Boardgames. From here to spending every Saturday night playing with my friends was just a small step.

Always smiling, very easy to talk to, and always happy to give a helping hand, a short summary of me, myself and I.

I handle the Softpedia freeware section, and believe that Open Source is the best way to develop software, mainly because, it gives users the possibility to create the applications they want, the way they want them.

Other than that, I like to enjoy the pages of adventure books, explore nature, either by foot or by bike, and, of course, the presence of good, quality people, that is, when I'm not playing on my PC.

The variety of programs nowadays never ceases to amaze me and this is probably one of the driving forces behind my contributions to the Mac area of Softpedia. My role at Softpedia is to provide fresh software to the masses but also to renew the well-established ones.

As for my out-of-work endeavors, I have the habit of losing myself into an ever-changing sea of words and their respective meanings. Every discipline has its own charm but what really gets me excited is the grammar-related stuff mixed with translation.

Other occupations include getting my mind blown by the concepts of infinite space and time and biological evolution.

If you look really deep into my eyes, you may find some sort of Windows imprint hiding in there, as I’m the one who spends most of his time writing about everything that happens inside Microsoft’s Redmond campus.

While I’m probably one of the few Softpedians who truly like Windows 8, I’m also pretty interested in every single little thing that bears a Microsoft logo (I prefer the new one).

When I’m not screaming “developers, developers, developers!” I like watching Formula 1 and soccer, driving and swimming.

Even though that may sound a little bit awkward, I truly respect Steve Ballmer, most likely because he loves Microsoft more than anything else on this planet.

I loved computers since I discovered PC games as a kid playing with two of my friends on a single computer.

I worked for a year to save money for my own computer and the "toy" was host for a lot of operating systems, programs, games, hardware upgrades and so on!

I've had my share of computer chashes because my overwhelming curiosity made me install hundreds of programs just to see what I can do with them. But in the end this was the driving force that made me join the Softpedia testing department.

This is how I am able to test a lot of great applications without reinstalling the OS every two months and I am learning a lot from the other experienced colleagues on the team.

Good day, World! I'm a civil engineer who didn't fit in the business of building stuff. However, my interest towards technology and how everything works lead me to Softpedia.

One could describe me as a highly sociable person that tends to pay attention to everything and everyone. It turns out I have made numerous friends over the years, so that must count for something.

I have also been described as generous, discrete, a perfect confident and a freak of nature when it comes to things being inventoried, sorted and labeled.

I love writing (since being creative for me cannot involve painting or playing any sort of musical instrument) and riding the hills on my motorcycle

Since I started writing security news for Softpedia, I became aware of the fact that a good antivirus solution is not enough to ensure a computer is properly protected against the large number of threats that roam the Internet.

Awareness is equally essential and that’s why I set my mind on informing people of all the latest malicious elements that lurk behind every link and every click, and even if I tend to use the word ‘beware’ a lot in my articles, I believe that only by being persistent I can make sure individuals will learn that many of the fabulous offers they are presented with are only scams.

On the other hand, I’m also interested in knowing what makes a website tick but, more importantly, I like to know what makes it weak for a hacker, and how cybercriminal activities can be avoided.

I'm a guy who likes Macs and (almost) all things with an Apple logo on them, a member of the "Concerned Coffee Drinking Apple Users Association Against Hot Weather" foundation, an inquisitive geek with my eyes constantly on the look for new things to learn and a student in the fine art of trolling.

I started using Macs about 5 years ago, after writing and updating software on our website's Handheld, Mobile and Windows areas. Although the first time we met Macs seemed to rub me the wrong way, I now use them on a daily basis at work (I also use a Windows powered PC / Linux powered laptop combo at home).

I am the one that makes sure we always have the freshest software releases on our Mac area and the chap that writes tutorials to help you get out of sticky situations or get things done the right way.

If you ever want to ask about anything Apple/Mac related (or anything else for that matter), contact me and I will do my best to answer you in a timely fashion.

My passion for technology lasts since almost forever, and I have been able to stay very close to it from the very first day I started writing for Softpedia.

And I must admit that I’m still being impressed by new advancements in the telecoms space, and that great new software for either phones or computers stirs my curiosity pretty often.

Equally, I enjoy playing one of those new shooters or strategy games in my spare time, or reading a good novel, if I’m not behind the wheel, which I also like a lot.

The interesting thing about working at Softpedia in the Windows Software Review division is that you get to see what the big names in software development are trying to come up with, in order to conquer the digital world. It gets more exciting when a newcomer rises above all expectations and takes the lead (at least temporary). The best part is getting to sit in the front row and judge the players.

When I'm not working with my awesome colleagues, I try to finish grad school (Computer Science and American Studies), travel as much as possible, develop super powers (currently aiming for time-travel), get together with my friends, play video games - while desperately waiting for winter every year to exercise my suicidal moves on the snowboard slope.

The first gaming experience I had was with an Atari 800XL. After approximately 500 lines of code, I could finally play a fun single-player pong game. As some of you may remember, because the "PC" was not fitted with a cassette deck, every day, I had to write the same code over and over again. Yes, I'm that much into games.

When it comes to genres, I must admit RPG's are my weakness, though I never pass on a good shooter or stunning adventure game.

When I finally decide a life outside the office is something worth considering, I like hiking, biking and fishing.

Believe that the pen is mightier than the sword: a humanist by education, a dreamer by inclination and a perfectionist by habit, I always believed in the magical power of words. Having joined Softpedia in 2006 and constantly working on my ninja word-skills, I now have proper confirmation that words can – and do – change the world.

My hobbies include writing and literature (no surprise there), hiking, movies, music and (the occasionally disastrous) culinary experiments. Somehow, they all touch on my job so, if you want, call me the luckiest girl on a four-block area, because I'm always having fun and keeping busy.

If I'm not at work, trust you'll find me at home with a good book, at the movies or hanging out with my closest friends, always trying to absorb new experiences, learn more, be a better person.

You're more than welcome to join me on this amazing ride.

The first time I was introduced to an Apple computer, my mentor told me to relax and enjoy the ride since this is the simplest, most secure and hard-to-mess-up operating system ever.

As it turns out, with enough curiosity, imagination and determination, you can push any boundaries. When she told me that she has never seen so many Black Screens of Death as on my iMac in her life, I decided I must have a certain native talent, and persevered.

Years later, my Mac purrs smoothly and the only way to see a BSoD is to use it as a wallpaper, but I must admit that I never had so much fun as in those early days when I was trying to figure out what went wrong and if it can be fixed without a system install... more >>

Ever since I joined Softpedia in 2009, I've been reviewing articles submitted by the editors, proofing content for spelling/grammar and ‘good word flow,’ filtering through the textual content that goes up on the news section.

A humanist by education and by choice, I more than deeply appreciate a fine piece of literature and good old music, but I have to admit that being on the 21st century side of things through my work here at Softpedia brings out a brighter, up-to-date and more realistic perspective on our world.

Back when I first got my hands on a computer (remember Sinclair ZX Spectrum?), most programs didn't target the average user, but a lot of things changed since then and now the amount of applications under active development is absolutely overwhelming.

Since a computer is not of much use without the right tools, I've always considered my job at Softpedia to be a great way for me to help people find the program they need in an ocean of computer software.

As time passes by, new challenges arise: since the old days I've always done my best to make sure we're listing the latest updates (and, of course, those listings have to be 100% accurate), but it's time to give something back, so now I'm also promoting those apps which stand out from the crowd, making Softpedia the one and only IT encyclopedia with bookmarks to all the software goodies.

Having graduated from the Faculty of Letters, you’d expect me to be good with words, but I’m rather clumsy when it comes to writing about myself. I’m an easygoing person who tends to get caught up in her dreams and views of how things should be.

At times, I forget to take off my rose-tinted glasses – which is not necessarily a bad thing.

As a Pisces, I am crazy about animals and nature – you can have my apartment on the 10th storey for a house out there anytime! As for leisure time, I enjoy a quiet evening, a good book or a trip into the wild (or, why not, all of them at once). The times when I’m not dreaming, I enjoy playing videogames and spending time with friends.

As far as work is concerned, it’s been very nice here at Softpedia so far – I really fancy my job and I do believe that waking up in the morning and not dreading your day because of a job you don’t enjoy is quite something.

I joined Softpedia in 2002 when the project was very much still in its infancy and had a different name, which some of our older (perhaps “dedicated” is a better word here) users might remember: SoftNews.

It was a great opportunity for me and, over the years, I’ve seen and helped it grow with my technical knowledge and various other skills, most of which were largely developed during the same time.

Looking back, it’s simply amazing what we’ve achieved so far and I’m honored to be a part of it all. But, experience and work hours aside (as loose as that concept is in my case, anyway), I like to think that deep inside Softpedia, there’s a bit of my heart and soul, powering its engine.

To me, it’s been like a rollercoaster ride you never want to end and, since this year we passed the 10 year milestone, I can only wish the next decade is just as great, if not even better! If you’re still reading, mark my words: stay tuned to Softpedia, great things are (always) coming!

... and I'm a PC. I enjoy games of all shapes and sizes, especially shooters and moba. My favorite game series is Prince of Persia , having finished it three or four times. I also like more old-school games, like Worms or Transport Tycoon. And yes, I've played a couple of social games, but you can't blame me, they're so addictive! Btw can you send me a cow? Just kidding.

I'm also a big fan of the Rubik's Cube, but being the clumsy person that I am, I lost misplaced it somewhere.

I wrote my first "Hello World" at the age of eleven in Borland Pascal. Since then I've moved on to fancier programming thingies. There are always new technologies appearing in the world of software development, and although it's not rocket science, it can be a bit daunting at times. But hey... you can always count on someone else trying to figure it out and posting it on the interwebs. more >>

I follow many rules in life, some are mine, some are others', but I often find common ground in things like friendship, responsibility, and various others aspects of life.

I’m always in the line for a good joke, a killer innovation or discovering new places. Switching from one hobby to another improved my personal achievements list considerably, while also keeping boredom at bay.

As far as technology goes, every new discovery and innovation gets me hyped up, willing to try it out to experience whatever it brings with it.

The web's been changing our lives for almost two decades now, and it still seems like things are only getting started. With the latest wave of web technologies, HTML5 and friends coming into their own, things will only get more interesting.

I've been interested in computers and anything related to them as far as I can remember, when the web was just getting started.

Watching it grow from a few pages of text, links and images - that you had to wait tens of seconds to load, to something that is close to replacing traditional operating systems and to something where you can find all of man's knowledge, any movie or song you'd ever want to watch, or friends you haven't seen in years, has been fascinating. Getting to write about it is even better.

Still, there comes a time when you need to 'log off', which for me means either trying to create something resembling music with only the help of '0s' and '1s', or getting out and snapping photos of anything I find interesting, which, for me, means a surprising amount of things.

I joined the Linux team at Softpedia a year and a half ago and it turns out I enjoyed working on Linux platforms more than I imagined. The potential is immense and I believe open-source is a great future to believe in.

Otherwise I'm just the average geek. Besides my regular passion IT related stuff, I also enjoy reading books, maybe a little too much. I like PC games and the occasional Marvel inspired movie.

Last, but not least, I love hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter, although I'm finding that the relativity of time is shrinking these activities as I grow older.

I am two persons in one: I’m a Gemini, I like having people around and I’m a dedicated friend, or so they say. I am a simple person, but I dream at having at least one statue – we all should.

I love seeing places I’ve never seen before, I like to laugh and I simply love cats.

I am not good at remembering names, but I do remember the ones that count.

The most important thing I learned so far is that people plan and God laughs.

From shooters to RPGs, from strategy titles to action adventure ones, if it delivers a quality experience, I'm more than wiling to try it out.

While I don't discriminate in regards to platforms, the PC will always occupy a special place in my heart because I grew up playing and experimenting on it.

When I'm not gaming, I like to hang out with friends or enjoy a good book, movie or TV show.

Hey, there! From where I stand, it seems that my life-long passion for animals and nature, together with my avid interest in everything that has to do with the written word, finally paid off, as now I get to spend my time reporting on how important the natural world is and on how we all should focus on taking better care of it.

OK, maybe when I was one-year-old I didn't really know how to make heads or tails of what was around me, but once I began to grow up, I sparked a sudden interest in most of the things having to do with the environment.

Otherwise, I'm your average chirpy young lady, who enjoys spending time with friends – outdoors, if possible – and browsing for new editions of relatively old books in libraries.

Hopefully, you'll have as much fun reading my articles as I have writing them!
