Softpedia Editor's Review for Greenfish DataMiner

    EDITOR'S RATING:

It can esasily recover lost files from written CD or DVD devices.

Written by Bogdan Popa on February 11th, 2012

Greenfish DataMiner is a powerful tool to recover data from scratched, damaged or corrupt discs, be they CDs or DVDs.

This isn’t the first time we’re seeing such an application, but Greenfish DataMiner provides a simpler method to recover the files, along with a very straightforward and clean interface.

While it’s able to detect and recover almost any file format out there, including videos, audio, photos and executables, Greenfish DataMiner reads the damaged disc and prompts the user to create a disc image for further processing.

All disc images are stored on the local computer in ISO format, which means they can be used not only for recovering data, but they can also be burned back on a disc if they contain no errors.

Still, the disc image created by Greenfish DataMiner can be then used by the application to extract either some user defined files or certain file formats, again selected by the user.

The whole process is blazing fast and as far as we’re concerned, Greenfish DataMiner does an excellent job, although it failed to create a disc image from a damaged disc during our test.

Plus, if beginners get themselves into trouble when using the app, a help file is always included in the package to explain every single step of this process.

The program runs on low resources, but it seems to stress up the CPU and RAM a little bit when attempting to recover files from the disc image.

But overall, it’s a great utility that’s worth a chance once you have to deal with a damaged or corrupt disc. It’s easy to use, it runs on low resources and, what’s more, it comes with a freeware license.
