MacVideo DVD Ripper

As the name of this program implies, MacVideo DVD Ripper allows you to rip DVD videos and convert them to other formats, such as MOV, AVI, MP4 and MPG. But it can also extract the audio stream and save it to MP3, AAC, WMA and others, as well as prepare items for iPod, iPad and iPhone, among other devices. The interface of the application is clean and pretty intuitive. You can load a DVD folder, IFO or ISO file by using either the file browser, folder view or "drag and drop" method. It is possible to process multiple DVD movies in a single session.

In the file queue, you can find out the name, duration, trimmed length (if you want to cut clips), number of chapters, target type and name, along with the estimated size of the DVD video. If you prefer the default settings, then it is only necessary to specify the output directory and file type, in order to initialize the conversion procedure.

But experienced users can fiddle with the audio and video settings when it comes to the sample rate, volume level, channel mode, bit rate, codec, resolution, and frame rate. Options can be restored to their default values. Plus, you can disable the audio or video stream.

You can preview clips in a built-in media player and capture frames, select the audio track and subtitle language, as well as merge videos into one file. But you can also trim clips by time or chapters, make image adjustments (e.g. brightness, saturation), as well as apply effects (e.g. old film) and apply watermarks (image or text).

In the "Options" area you can change the snapshots format (BMP or JPG) and directory, as well as set the default output directory and open a log folder. During the encoding operation, you can set the tool to turn off the computer when it finishes. The DVD video processing tool requires a moderate-to-high amount of system resources, in order to finish a task briefly. It is very responsive, includes a help file and delivers a good image and sound quality. On the downside, you cannot select the number of CPU cores to be used or set the tool to open the output directory after encoding.
