As the name of this program implies, Free DVD Creator allows you to create DVD videos from common file types, as well as to burn them to disc. It supports several formats, including AVI, FLV, MOV, MP4, RM and WMV.
The tool is wrapped in a dull and uncomplicated interface. Adding items to the file list can be done via the file browser ('drag and drop' is not supported).
The file queue displays specific information on each video, namely the source path, duration, audio type, start and end time, size and subtitle. If you are satisfied with the default settings, then you can immediately proceed with the burning session.
Otherwise, you can configure video settings in regard to the TV system type, resolution and aspect ratio. Plus, you can make Free DVD Creator automatically add a letter box to preserve the aspect ratio and to insert a chapter at a specific time interval.
Another feature of Free DVD Creator allows you to create a DVD title menu and main menu. Therefore, you can customize navigation properties (e.g. sequential playback, columns and maximum entries per page) and highlight settings (e.g. active style and color, thumbnail size and position).
Just before initializing the burning session, you can change the default working folder, as well as select the burning device, writing speed and volume. Free DVD Creator takes a reasonable amount of time to finish this task, depending on the size of your videos to be converted.
The app needs a moderate amount of system resources and has a good response time. It requires several codecs to be installed. However, since the program has not received any recent updates, it is not very stable on newer operating systems. For instance, Free DVD Creator failed to load some videos during our tests (e.g. AVI, FLV). Nevertheless, is provides users with an easy way to quickly create and burn a DVD movie.
