BorkBack is a simple file archiving software. BorkBack enables you to save files onto your SCSI tape drive. However this is useless if you don't have the appropriate device driver for your tape drive. BorkBack doesn't need any special device driver. It accesses your tape drive through the ASPI layer.
Here are some key features of "BorkBack":
· Save and restore files from/to a single harddrive directory. Attention: this means that you can NOT backup and restore multiple directories or your whole harddrive. BorkBack is only meant for archiving space consuming files like wave files or movies that are located in the same directory. However you can use e.g. WinZip or TotalCommander and zip multiple directories to keep the structure and then backup the zip file.
· Easy to use. Just format a tape first (takes only a few seconds) then mark the files you want to backup and press the Start button.
· Tape contents management, you can easily check whats on a tape and when you made the backup.
· Works with SCSI tape drives that support the SCSI command "Space" with the "End-of-Data" option. If you don't know if your drive can do this just try it. If the drive doesn't know this command you'll get an error message.·
· Does not need any special tape device driver. That means it runs even with tape drives that are not supported by NT-Backup. The Adaptec ASPI driver is needed for WindowsNT.
