Softpedia Editor's Review for WinAce
|
A useful tool for compressing and decompressing files
Written by Bogdan Popa on November 1st, 2011
It was a time when WinAce was one of the most popular compression tools out there, but time has passed by and the world has changed.
But WinAce still pops into some people’s heads every time when talking about this kind of software solutions, so is it really such a good idea to return to WinAce?
It’s for you to decide, but WinAce does almost the same things as all the other compression tools out there. Sure, judging by its motto, “because sometimes, size does matter”, WinAce might come in very handy to those who want to save some space, but that’s rarely the case nowadays.
WinAce has a very clean interface that reminds us of the other compression tools out there, with a classic layout. A file browser in the middle of the main window, a toolbar with the most common functions and several menus full of features.
WinAce can also integrate into the Windows context menu, so that you can create an archive or extract files on the go just by right clicking a file. It’s able to handle most formats out there, so it can easily replace your traditional file archiver. It worked quite smooth during our test, so it is still up for the challenge.
The nasty thing is that you’ll have to pay for using WinAce. It’s not a hefty price, that’s true, but the market is already full of freeware solutions that can do almost the same things as WinAce.
All in all, it’s still a good application with excellent features and its proprietary format, so paying for a full license to unlock its powers is only up to you.
