Developed in C#, Simple Countdown Time is an application that gives you the possibility to set a countdown timer and stopwatch, as well as to play sound and customize the message to display when time's up.

The installation is speedy and shouldn't give you any trouble, since there are no special options or third-party offers bundled. However, you must have .NET Framework, otherwise it won't run. The source code can be found in the installed directory.

Once started, the program creates an icon in the taskbar notifications area and gets minimized there. It provides quick access to its options while monitoring the countdown timer and letting you carry on with your normal PC activity. The customized message pops up when it's up.

Simple Countdown Time adopts a standard .NET Framework form as its main window. It has a rudimentary look because it doesn't put emphasis on graphical elements, but it's very easy to use, since all options are listed in two separate panes for the countdown and stopwatch.

When it comes to the countdown timer, you can specify time in hours, minutes, seconds and milliseconds, write a customized messages, enable sound and assign a local WAV file, as well as set an interval to instruct the tool to show elapsed time after a specific number of hours, minutes, seconds or milliseconds have passed.

As for the stopwatch, you can just set the time and measurement unit, as well as write a message. The timer starts with one click and it can be paused, resumed, stopped, and reset. The current settings can be saved to an XML file, while the window can stay on top of other apps.

No error dialogs popped up in our tests and the application didn't hang or crash. It was minimally invasive throughout its runtime and had low impact on system performance.

The interface needs some improvements in the graphical department, though. Otherwise, Simple Countdown Time supplies you with a straightforward method for configuring countdown and stopwatch timers. It's lightweight, open-source and geared toward all user levels.
