Elephicon

Elephicon is a GUI wrapper for the PNG2icons app and its purpose is to provide you with a hassle-free way of creating icons for your Windows and macOS apps and projects.

To be more, this cross-platform, little app (available for both Windows 10 and macOS) allows you to generate Apple ICNS and Microsoft ICO files from PNG formats directly on your computer's desktop.

Working with Elephicon is nothing short of a walk in the park: you just drag and drop PNGs on the app's GUI, select the desired output format, and that's pretty much about it. Once the process is completed, you'll be met by a message displaying the output file's name and location (the desktop).

Even though it's quite easy to use, it's worth noting that the ideal input is a 24-bit PNG with an alpha channel (RGBA) with 1024x1024 pixels. Of course, other dimensions and other PNG-related formats still work, but the results might not be as crips-looking. Also, if you're only interested in generating ICO files, then 256x256 pixels are satisfactory.

If you want to tweak the results a bit, press the Alt button on your keyboard, and a typical menubar will appear in the extreme upper part of the app's minimalist GUI.

You can choose from three quality settings - low, medium, and high, as well tweak the ICO output behavior. For example,  you can use the BMP format for the smaller icon sizes, or use the PNG format for each icon in the created ICO file.

While lightweight and minimalist, Elephicon is a very nice application. It's modern, it looks great, it's fast, and it's remarkably user-friendly, so no matter who you are and how inexperienced you are with apps of this sort, you should be able to generate ICO and ICNS files with no trouble.
