When having to work with a lot of applications and windows that need to stay active, there's a high change your desktop becomes flooded and difficult to identify items you need. One method to bypass this is to use a second monitor, but even this is a temporary solution. Luckily, specialized programs like ZMover give you the possibility to lock window positions, desktop icons arrangement and more, for an enhanced workflow.
After a short and uneventful setup process, you can take the app for a spin to see what it's all about. It's also a good idea to pay a visit to the help manual to quickly get acquainted with features, although the interface is intuitive enough and shouldn't pose any accommodation problems.
Most of the space is taken up by a list of tasks you create, along with name, a check box to toggle running status, as well as the number of times it triggered. Quick controls are found in the upper toolbar and there are even a few options in the context menu to create or edit entries.
Adding a handler is a walk in the park. This is because the application puts a crosshair at your disposal so you can easily drop it over the window you want to handle. You can add text in a dedicated field that is either identical to the title or matches parts of it, and this greatly comes in handy if the window title is constantly changing.
You then need to decide what action to be taken. Choices are decent, with the possibility to choose more than one property. As such, a target window can be brought to a custom location, resized according new specifications, have its state changed to a maximized or minimized view, bring it over every other running programs, and whether or not to trigger the process just once.
Tasks are all displayed in the dashboard, with the possibility to revisit configurations at any given moment. There's also the possibility to create a general rule for all active windows, suitable for setting up your workspace.
The application is capable of storing icons arrangement on your desktop. This, as well as window management can be done for all displays connected to your computer. What's more, desktop icons can be set to return to initial positions in case changing the screen resolution messes up your arrangement.
All things considered, we can safely state that ZMover is a handy desktop manager that can be used by beginners and experts alike. With little time and effort put into configuring handlers you can rest assured that custom layouts remain the same and return active windows to a position you're more comfortable with. It's worth at least a try, especially since it can be used on multiple displays.
