EF Commander is a file manager system that bears a striking resemblance to Total Commander, so what's not to like about it, right?
The tiny software is extremely easy to install, and there's a pack of several languages to choose from.
The interface consists of two screens, and you have commands for each one of them in the "Left" and "Right" menu (sort files, display mode, drive source), both displayed on the far right and far left of the menu toolbar (so there aren't any confusions... because some people can't immediately tell left from right).
The two panels can be swapped, or given the same attributes by the simple click of a button.
You can configure EF Commander to allow only one instance at a time, animate hot links, show old toolbar symbols, look for a particular file by using Windows' search function, and more.
It's nice to see that most hotkeys are the same as in Total Commander, but if you haven't used that file manager before, then check out the help file.
The help file (which is offline) explains exactly what each function does, as well as the assigned hotkeys for each command (and no, you can't change them, sadly).
EF Commander does exactly what a file manager should do, but nothing more. Its functions are pretty basic, and there's no wow factor to be found here. The interface could use a little work as well.
CPU and memory are minimally used.
So, if you want an alternative to Windows Explorer or other file manager system, try using EF Commander. It's simple and free!
