Softpedia Editor's Review for Ubiquitous Player
All-in-one movie / music player, text editor and image viewer
Written by Elena Opris on July 26th, 2012
Ubiquitous Player is an application suite that comes bundled with three major features - a music player, an image viewer and a file manager. It also packs a text editor, notes / bookmarks / clipboard manager, web browser, a calculator, a snipping tool, a color picker and a virtual keyboard.
The user interface of the program is a bit cluttered, thus it may take some time getting acquainted to it. The top bar comprises the main features of the program, while the left section holds the file manager component alongside its management tools at the bottom.
Ubiquitous Player opens up displaying the music player in the main area of its GUI. It provides you with ID3 tag details for the currently playing song as well as album art. Playlists are easy to create and manage and it also supports CUE files, making it simple for you to browse the contents of audio mixes featuring this characteristic.
The minimalistic Internet browser works well providing tab support and a `Search on Google` command. Calculations are also at hand with this software as it features an advanced version of the Windows Calculator. The integrated `Image viewer` component of the suite comes with a few editing options such as Crop, Add Text or Draw as well as a slideshow function.
The `Text editor` embedded into Ubiquitous Player comes as an alternative to Notepad, adding value to your writings as it supports basic text formatting. Clipboard items can be easily accessed once you turn on the monitor and there's a `Clear` option available to empty it whenever you feel like.
Capturing certain portions of your screen can be accomplished by selecting the Snipping tool and draw rectangles holding the right-click button of your mouse while getting color codes from any zone of your monitor is easy as 1-2-3 with the aid provided by the incorporated `Color picker`. When in need of privacy and secure insertion of passwords in order to avoid eventual keyloggers for instance, the virtual keyboard is just one click away.
You can also switch the color scheme of the interface and also disable the `Use global shortcuts` option as it will interfere with the program although you are working in another application (pressing CTRL+S in a program to save your work stops the track within the music player).
Ubiquitous Player encompasses a few elementary components that can lend a helping hand in your everyday work. Therefore, if looking for a music player supporting all the popular audio file types, basic image viewing, file managing and text editing then this piece of software may be the thing you look for.
