iPod Reset Utility
iPod Reset Utility is an application developed by Apple that provides a quick method of resetting iPod devices to factory settings when the situation requires so.
The program was issued as a last resort to scenarios that involve severe iPod errors, such as the inability to play music or iTunes’ failure to recognize the device.
iPod Reset Utility was designed only for iPod Shuffle devices (first and second generation) alone and will not work on newer iPods. Also, OS support is limited to Windows 2000 and XP, which is also stated in the installer – if another operating system is detected, the utility won’t deploy at all.
The main window of iPod Reset Utility is plain, although you can somewhat recognize Apple’s graphic touch – it’s painted mostly in grey, with that specific window format that the company accustomed its users to.
If an iPod is not connected to the PC, the program’s main widow will state this. If the device is plugged in, a Reset button will be made available at once.
Before proceeding with it, make sure that you backup the contents located on the device, if possible. This is necessary because a reset process will completely erase all of the data, bringing the iPod to factory settings.
It is also recommended that you run the application with administrative rights and that you don’t disconnect the device during the reset process. Once the process is completed, you should open iTunes and see if the problem persists.
There’s no guarantee that the program will actually make your device more responsive; its main purpose is to remove the current settings and iPod content, as some of it may cause the issues you’re confronting with.
The huge downside of the program is the poor support for iPod models, being restricted only to two early generations, which isn’t enough for an audience so big as Apple’s.
