Softpedia Editor's Review for Mumble
|
Low-latency, high-quality voice communication for gamers
Written by Bogdan Popa on November 3rd, 2011
You’re a gamer, right? And just like any gamer in the world, you have a lot of friends online that watch your back every time you leave in a mission together to kill some enemies.
Because keeping in touch with your comrades when hunting monsters is a pretty important thing, Mumble might come in very handy for you and your friends as it has everything it needs to establish a high-quality voice chat over the Internet.
Mumble has been specifically designed for gamers, so it has a lot of features in this regard.
Although it comes as a pretty light package and with a freeware license, Mumble proves you that it’s an incredibly professional tool straight from the beginning as you’re prompted to configure your devices for a high-quality voice chat.
And there’s nothing too complicated in there because you just have to do a setup wizard, which means the whole procedure should be completed in just a few minutes.
After that, you and your friends have to connect to one of the tens available servers and create or join a channel where you can chat without being interrupted by other Mumble users.
We’ve tested the app on European servers and the connection was made in just a few seconds, so once again an A+.
Although the audio quality is absolutely amazing, there are a lot of settings in Mumble, including shortcuts that could change a lot the way you interact with the app. For instance, you can choose a key for push to talk if you don’t want to keep the microphone enabled all the time, so it just depends on you.
All things considered, Mumble is one of the best software solutions of its kind, and the fact that it’s free makes it so much better…
