The world of multi-protocol instant messengers has recently received a brand new member coming directly from mother Russia.

Called QIP Infium, this application has been specifically developed to let users chat on multiple networks at the same time, including Jabber, ICQ, Facebook, Twitter, Orkut, Google Talk and many others.

Installing the application is not that big of a deal, but using it actually is. Because QIP is a very complex software solution and although some would say that’s not at all a good thing, it’s just the way things should be into a program with so many features.

Of course, you don’t need to be a computer guru to use it, but you still have to know how to configure a Jabber account for example, although in most cases the whole thing comes to writing your username and password.

There is a very, very rich settings menu which let you change a lot of options, so tech heads will be pretty excited with this Russian software.

We’ve tried QIP on multiple networks and although we had some problems getting used to it, we must admit that it’s a decent application after all. It has everything you need from file transfers to voice calling and conversation history, so it pretty much gets in line with all the other messaging solutions.

You still need to do some configuration though, as during our testing we discovered a few awkward things that are somehow inappropriate for an instant messaging app. For example, you can only send messages using the enter key after enabling a dedicated feature for that purpose, otherwise you have to press ctrl + enter to send a message.

Simply put, QIP Infium is a nice instant messaging solution if you have the time to configure it, but otherwise you may found it a little bit too complex for the average Joe.
