Home Chatter is a software tool whose purpose is to aid people in communicating through a LAN connection, with a minimal amount of effort.

The installation process is not a prerequisite, as this utility is portable. As a result, unlike installers, it is not going to add any new items to the Windows registry and hard drive without your permission, and no remnants are going to be left behind after its removal from the disk.

Another noteworthy aspect is that you can run Home Chatter on any computer you come in contact with by simply placing the program files to a removable data device, such as a pen drive.

This application enables you to talk to others in your LAN by simply joining a room or creating a new one. In the first situation, you are required to input an IP address, server name, port, username and password, while in the latter, you can also input the maximum number of users that can join. Moreover, you have admin rights, such as kicking or banning certain people.

The interface is quite simple to handle, as it consists of a menu bar, two panes which allow you to view a list of connected users and the messages sent by others, and a box in which you can write your text.

The language can be changed, while from the settings panel you can set up the tool to remember user and server names and the IP address, as well as play a sound when new messages are received.

To sum up, Home Chatter is a pretty efficient piece of software when it comes to talking with other people. The interface is suitable to all users although not very appealing, the response time is good, the CPU and memory usage is minimal and we did not pick up on any errors, bugs or freezes.
