Netchat

Communication is a highly important aspect of our daily lives. It’s especially handy and necessary in work environments. Various chat applications can be used to make this comfortable, and even to transfer files. A suitable example in this regard is Netchat, a practical local network instant messaging application.

On the bright side of things, it’s not packed inside an installer so you can easily distribute it to all the computers in your network. Launching it prompts for a Firewall exception which is mandatory. It generally resides in the tray area, but you can also work with the main window to always have the list of users and options in plain sight.

It’s a good idea to first pay a visit to the options tab in order to set up your details. Although the application reads your User name and detects computers connected to your network, here is also the place to enable logs, make the taskbar blink on alerts, start with Windows, minimize new chat sessions, and choose to display offline users.

By default the application is about communication, but it’s packed with several more features. You can choose to send the clipboard content, clipboard URL, clipboard file, or any other file to an online individual, thus making it quite practical in a local network.

The tray icon menu allows you to quickly set up a chat operation or file transfer session. You can also manage some advanced settings to better meet your demands. For instance, setting up a FTP server allows you to send files to offline users as well so they are available regardless of the connection status.

Netchat is more than a reliable network chat tool. All you need is to run it, with users automatically detected if on the same network, and setting up a FTP server makes it possible to share files with offline individuals as well.
