DownTube

When you need to quickly assemble a media file, be it video or audio, a lot of material of interest is found over the Internet. However, not all available websites allow you to directly download content. Luckily, applications like DownTube give you the possibility to get ahold of nearly any media file from one of the most popular entertainment web pages.

You mostly need to free up space for files you wish to download, because this application only takes up about 200 Kb of space on your hard disk drive. Moreover, it uses incredibly little of your system's resources and the speed at which it puts features to good use only depends on your connection type.

A web browser still needs to be used in order to fetch the required URL and just press “Copy” because the application automatically fills in the dedicated field, getting itself ready to download.

Other than features mentioned above, the application puts little else at your disposal. The main window lets you download either the video or audio part from the provided URL.

There is no options menu or any other settings to adjust. No implemented function is available to set at least a destination folder, with a dialogue screen requiring it each time.

This is not necessarily bad, because quality options are also set from there. Output format and resolution depend on each file, whereas audio can only be saved to MP3 with disappointing quality.

DownTube is a handy application to keep around even for leisure purposes. It does not burden your computer with heavy system requirements nor much disk space. The interface is intuitive enough, assuring you the desired media file is saved to your hard disk drive in a matter of seconds.
