Youku Downloader is a straightforward program designed with the purpose of downloading video files from Youko.com, a famous video broadcasting service aimed at Chinese users.

The main task of the downloaders is to grab online content and save it on the local hard disk, so that users can enjoy it in offline mode when an Internet connection is not available.

Aside from its main purpose, the program also serves to convert the downloaded content to formats compatible with modern devices such as iPhone, iPad and PSP.

Following a short and complication-free installation process, you can make acquaintance with the user interface, which is very simplistic, yet intuitive. The GUI is populated with very few fields, which correspond to the video URL and the output format.

All that needs to be done is to specify the link to the video you wish to download and select the output video type using a dedicated dropdown menu. You can choose from FLV, AVI, WMV, 3GP, MP4, MOV and MP3, whichever suits you best.

The default destination folder is your desktop, but this can be easily changed using the Settings window. Once you’ve made all the necessary accommodations, you can press the ‘Download’ button and wait for the video to be processed.

The only complaint is related to the low download speeds, but this is likely related to Youku servers; however, users residing in China might be able to enjoy a faster experience, taking into consideration that the servers are located nearer to them.
