Mbox2eml

Mbox2eml is a lightweight Java-based app that gives you the possibility of creating EML files from Mozilla emails, for safekeeping. It targets all types of users, whether they are already experienced with this type of tools or not.

Installation is not a requirement, so you can run the JAR file directly. Alternatively, you can store Mbox2eml on a USB flash drive or similar storage unit, and run it on any computer that has Java pre-installed.

You can carry the app with you wherever you go. What's more important is that the Windows Registry section does not receive entry updates, and files are not left behind on the hard drive after program removal.

The interface of the app is clean and pretty intutive. After opening Mozilla emails in the workspace, you can export the selected or all messages to the EML format, once you establish the output directory.

You can organize messages in the main frame by sender, receiver, subject or date, for previewing them. It is also possible to save the selected or all attachments to file, enable the automatic creation of subdirectories and set the output filename pattern (sender and subject, or receiver and subject).

Mbox2eml requires a moderate quantity of CPU and system memory, has a good response time and finishes an export task rapidly. No error dialogs have been shown throughout our evaluation and the utility did not freeze or crash. Thanks to its intuitive layout and overall simplicity, first-time users can quickly get adjusted to Mbox2eml's working environment.
