Softpedia Editor's Review for Portable FileZilla
|
Award-winning FTP client that can be run entirely from a USB thumbdrive, portable hard drive, iPod, CDRW, etc
Written by Bogdan Popa on January 16th, 2012
Portable FileZilla is a FTP client that can be easily copied on a portable device such as an USB flash drive and loaded directly from there without prior installation.
This way, one removable drive can be used on multiple computers, with the same connection settings saved in the FileZilla FTP client.
Since there's nothing to install, it's enough to simply copy all files on the USB device, while enjoying basically all the features we've seen in the standard version of the application.
It of course boasts the same interface with multiple panels in the main window dedicated to browsing either the local drives or the remote sites, read the log file or manage transfers.
Portable FileZilla provides a quick connect mode that prompts you to provide the host, username, password and port information, without the need for saving it separately.
This doesn't necessarily mean that you can't create multiple accounts and manage them on the go, because the “Site Manager” screen gives you the power to create new sites, folders and bookmarks.
With drag and drop support, speed limits, process queue and multiple transfer modes, Portable FileZilla also sports a huge settings menu with configuration options that concern every single feature of the app, such as transfers, proxy, interface, file editing or language. All these settings can be exported and imported back at a later time.
Just like the standard version, Portable FileZilla remains very light on computer resources and obviously works on all Windows versions on the market.
Overall, Portable FileZilla is one of the best FTP clients on the market and the fact that it's portable makes it twice better.
