Softpedia Editor's Review for Soulseek
|
Ad-free, spyware-free file sharing application
Written by Bogdan Popa on November 14th, 2011
File sharing is more like a trend nowadays, everybody’s doing it, no matter the application or service they are using.
That’s why Soulseek is quite a handy tool for all those who wish to share files over the Internet, offering them the features they like the most: a simple interface, stable connections and fast downloads.
Soulseek was initially designed to let independent music artists from all over the world share their creations with ease, so you will find several rooms in there named after popular music genres.
The most important thing when it comes to Soulseek is that you don’t have to share anything to use it and although you’ll need an account, it takes just a second to create one. Just pick a username, choose a password and you’re ready to go.
The interface on the other hand is quite simple, but it looks a little bit outdated. It still helps the app serve its purpose pretty easy, so you can easily switch through chatrooms, file search, transfers and wishlists with a single click.
You’ll find several settings menus in Soulseek because developers have decided to show them individually under the “View” link in the toolbar and not group them together in a single Settings window.
Transfer rates remain pretty good since we are talking about a peer-to-peer file sharing app, so it only depends on your and the other user’s Internet connection.
Unfortunately, there are only a few users connected to Soulseek, so don’t expect to see thousands of people sharing files through this app. Still, it remains a simple and efficient way to make a name for yourself, so go ahead and give it a try.

· Fixed crash bug that often occurs when a search returns a large number of results, although the problem is with a very generic part of the code that can affect any aspect of the client's functionality, apparently and especially when the software is very busy. this is to do with STLPort's, the client's standard template library, memory allocator, and may or may not affect memory consumption as well.
