Redirect any Bing search operations to Google while using Mozilla Firefox, with the possibility to make Cortana use Google as well. #BingGoogle #Redirect Bing search #Bing search to Google #Bing #Google #Search
Windows more or less ditched Internet Explorer in Windows 10 to make room for it’s improved browser, Edge. It’s automatically associated with web searches performed from Cortana, returning results from Bing. However, you can easily redirect Bing searches to Google while using Firefox with the help of the Bing-Google for Firefox browser extension.
Needless to say that you need to be using Mozilla Firefox as your preferred web browser to fully benefit from what this extension has to offer, and it’s also the only way you’re able to install it. Once it gets integrated, the browser needs to restart, and you can use it just as before.
The only way you know for sure that the extension is properly working is to head over to Bing and perform a random search. Results are displayed from Google every time a search operation is attempted on Bing while using Mozilla Firefox. Moreover, this is done even when you use the dedicated search bar and it’s set to use Bing.
In case Mozilla Firefox is your default browser, every search operation which requires the browser to open up with Bing results are redirected to Google. On the bright side of things, there’s also a way to turn this to an advantage while looking up things over the web via Cortana. A little effort is required, but it might be just what you’re looking for.
In order to make this possible you first need to install EdgeDeflector. It’s an application which forces Cortana to use your default web browser when using it to look up things on the web. This means that if Mozilla Firefox is your default browser, Cortana now returns Google search results instead of Bing, making it a lot more comfortable to initiate a search over the web since it can now be done from the desktop.
Bottom line is that it’s frustrating not to benefit from the liberty of using the tools you want. However, applications and extensions make this possible, and Bing-Google for Firefox is a suitable example in case you ever wanted Cortana to return Google results, or see a lot less of Bing in general.
