The installation process is quite typical for extensions, including the fact that you are required to restart your web browser. It creates a small button next to the address bar and clicking on it is going to bring up a well-organized window which lets you easily access all the available options with just a click of the button.
Aside from that, a quick start guide is provided by the developers thus ensuring that all types of users can easily find their way around it, without encountering any kind of issues.
Create an account
First and foremost, you should know that you can collaborate remotely with other project members, share your work or discover other people’s interests by signing up to the developers’ website. It is important to keep in mind that this is not mandatory.
Items you can add to the library
It is possible to add almost any item to your library, such as books, documents, journal articles, newspaper articles, links to files, a copy of a file, artwork, bill, e-mail, forum port, letter, patent, radio broadcast, and report, and the list goes on.
In addition, you can create a web page entry from the current page which will act like a shortcut, while you can also view and edit information such as item type, title, author, date, short title, language, notes, tags and related items.
Attach items, use a search function, and import and export info
A search feature is incorporated, as well as multiple text-editing options. Snapshots, links of current page or URL can easily be attached to all your items, as well as a stored copy of a file, or a link to a file.
Last but not least, it is possible to add items to your library according to their identifier (e.g. ISBN, DOI, PMID), add standalone and child notes, import and export data, using formats such as RDF, XML, HTML, JSON, TXT and BIB, create a timeline and report errors.
To conclude, Zotero for Firefox is a complex and powerful Firefox extension, which can be used by both power and novice users with ease. It did not pop any errors, crash or freeze in our tests and all tasks were completed in a fair amount of time. It comes bundled with a long list of options, which should keep you glued to the computer for quite a while, and the computer's performance is not going to be affected in any way.
