Any communication platform that relies on a centralized server can be rendered unusable if the service provider encounters any issues, and people may not be comfortable having their data routed through a single location, as this makes it easier for others to collect personal information.

Classified ads is a relatively simple application that proposes an alternative solution, namely a decentralized server-less system that relies on a multitude of nodes maintained by its users to store and transfer data.

The system features a distributed design, as each node in the network is used to set up a mini-server that can serve other clients. The application, therefore, avoids relying on a single service provider, but new users need to know the address of at least one existing node when first setting things up.

Operators are identified using the SHA1 hash code of their encryption keys, and all other profile information can be hidden. The program relies on the RSA-2048 and AES-256 algorithms for encryption.

The application allows you to post so-called “classified ads”, but these need not have anything to do with sales or purchases. They can be published in various categories, and you can even attach files.

Each user is allowed to create a profile, which can be made public or private. You can add any details you deem relevant, as well as add a profile picture, and other operators can leave public comments.

Classified ads enables you to send private messages to other users, transfer files and perform VOIP calls.

There is no denying the fact that Classified ads has great potential, as it provides you with a fairly straightforward server-less communication platform that can be used for a variety of purposes.

However, the application is not very novice-friendly at present, which means that first time users are likely to have a hard time performing the necessary configurations.
