A host file is a simple text file that is used to map IP addresses and host domains.

This said, working with large numbers of hosts can become a bit counterproductive and time-consuming. Fortunately, you can rely on on the services provided by a simple app named Hozz.

In a few words, Hozz is a streamlined piece of software that enables you to store, sort and manage your host files. You can start working with this app in practically no time, as it does not require any sort of installation.

Simply launch the executable file and click the plus-shaped button to add a new host entry by specifying the name and the remote source URL. The app's appearance is quite modern thanks to a simplistic main window but mainly thanks to its stylish and intuitive user interface.

Before anything else, you should know that the application automatically updates your online hosts files.

You can easily switch between various entries and import hosts files by dragging and dropping them onto the app's interface. Hozz also makes it possible for you to export hosts files to either zip archives or to Surge configuration files.

The application enables you to sort your hosts files by dragging and dropping them but it would have been even more efficient if it would have enabled you to sort hosts files under categories.

Considering Hozz is still a young project some small bugs are to be expected.

Taking all of the above into consideration, Hozz is a simplistic utility for hosts file management. The application comes with a simplistic and stylish user interface, a simple workflow and basic sorting, searching and filtering options.

What's new in Hozz 0.1.4:

  • Bugfix:
  • Instead of change hosts file owner to current user, now Hozz adds the user to the access group of this file under macOS and Linux for security reasons
  • Use Icacls instead of Cacls under Windows for security reasons
  • A bright tray icon for the dark theme in macOS Sierra
