CobraSoft PopStop is an add in tool that integrates with Internet Explorer's user interface to stop the annoying pop-up windows.

With an intuitive interface, the program gives you control over when and how the windows are allowed to open up.

Pop-up windows are those useful, but often mis-used and annoying, windows that appear while you are surfing the web. Many web-sites use them for advertising. They feel the more ads they can throw at you the more you are likely to purchase something.

We at CobraSoft feel this use of the pop-up window is entirely un-necessary. It is a useful feature to have when used properly. If for instance you are reading an article and they have a word or quote linked, you click it and another window opens with say, a definition or reference to another article. You quickly read the contents of this smaller pop-up window and then close it. You are right back to your original reading with no problems. Another example may be that you are a member of a message board site.

You go to one of the pages and it needs your password and user id. It could simply open a smaller pop-up window asking you for your name and password then disappear and bring you right back to the page you wanted. These are both valid and good use of a pop-up window.
However, advertisers and sites that use advertising to support themselves have taken it too far.

With the newer high-speed connections, pop-up windows appear so quickly that you can not get rid of them fast enough, often the ads are tricky and use a pop-under technique so you don't even know they are there until you close your browser.

Some sites don't even let you leave without shooting up more sites to look at. What is all this? Do you have to stand for someone else taking control of your PC? Television advertisements don't create new televisions in your living room to show you more commercials why should your PC?
