Quick Compare is a comprehensive and effective software solution worth having when you need to compare two scripts and view their similarities within seconds. It enables you to connect to your SQL Server, choose the scripts of the tables you are interested in, then compare them.
The main window of the application is very simple and easy to work with. When you launch Quick Compare for the first time, you will notice that it is sectioned by three panels; two for browsing the scripts you want and the latest for displaying the similarities and the differences.
From the drop-down list you are able to choose the SQL Server instances you want to work with. They will automatically load into the Windows authentication mode. In case you want to switch the authentication mode, you can press the small button located right next to the drop-down list (marked with three dots). This allows you to supply a domain username and a password.
After that, all of the available databases along with their tables, procedures, triggers, views and functions are displayed. You can choose scripts from different tables and compare them with ease.
One important feature of Quick Compare is that it allows you to gain access to any encrypted script. By turning on the ‘Compare Encrypted’ option (located in the Advanced menu), you can easily decrypt all the scripts before performing a comparison.
From the right-click menu you can easily copy the current script to clipboard so you can paste it into any SQL Server query editing tool or save the selected script to a new TXT file.
Considering all of the above, Quick Compare comes in handy especially for database administrators who need to compare two different scripts, whether they are encrypted or not, and view their similarities.
