myBase Networking Edition description |
|
|
myBase is a powerful program that comes with the networking/collaboration edition
myBase is a powerful program that comes with the networking/collaboration edition which enables you to access myBase databases (.nyf files) over LAN or even Internet, and allows simultaneous multi-user read/write access to a collection of myBase .nyf databases which reside on server computers. With myBase networking edition, you can access your database at home from office through an Internet connection, collaborate with co-workers on a project from anywhere.
In comparison to the traditional myBase desktop edition, myBase networking edition consists of one server application, running on a server computer, and a client application, running on the user's workstations.
myBase networking edition offers a number of features which enables you to run your personal and corporate database over network very easily without complicated database/server setup and configurations, default settings are suitable for most cases. The database administrators have the convenience of managing users/groups accounts and active sessions within the myBase client program.
From Ver 2.0 on, myBase server works on both Linux and Windows, and accepts HTTP requests as well as myBase client program requests, therefore you will have the convenience of viewing your databases within either a myBase client program or a familiar web browser.
myBase server accepts any .nyf databases created with the desktop edition, and the databases created with myBase server also work with the desktop edition. You don't need database file format conversion whenever you use the desktop edition or the network version (including the Linux version of myBase server).
Standard TCP/IP Client/Server Program myBase networking edition is a standard TCP/IP-based client/server program, which enables you to access remote myBase databases (.nyf files), and collaborate with your colleagues over LAN or Internet. In comparison to the traditional myBase desktop editions, myBase networking edition consists of one server application, running on a server computer, and a client application, running on the user's workstations.
Simultaneous Multi-User Read/Write Access Over Network myBase networking edition allows simultaneous multi-user read/write access to a collection of myBase .nyf databases which reside on the server. Each user can mount any number of databases simultaneously within myBase Client Program, so long as databases have been opened on myBase server and the user has the appropriate access privileges on the databases.
Customizable Server TCP Port By default, myBase server will be listening on TCP Port #1234, although you can customize the port number simply by editing the SsgServerCfg.ini config file.
Group/User Account Management myBase server maintains its own groups and users list, and privileges, that has nothing to do with Windows Accounts. Groups/Users management work can be done within myBase client program in an intuitive GUI manner with ease.
HTTP Protocol Support myBase server accepts HTTP requests as well as myBase client program requests, therefore you will have the convenience of viewing your databases within either a myBase client program or even a familiar web browser.
Server Log File Support myBase server keeps all communication history in the specified log file. The log file name can be customized by editing the SsgServerCfg.ini config file.
File Locking Support Before a user can edit a note/file stored in a myBase database on server computer over network, the note/file must be locked by the user, otherwise the note/file can only be viewed. When you go to a tree node, myBase client program can automatically lock the note, so you can edit it without locking manually.
Protocol Command Permissions Before a user can view/edit a database, the user must login to myBase server with the appropriate user id and password. Server administrators can edit groups/user' privileges with myBase client program, and can assign privileges for each protocol commands.
Database Permissions Server administrators can also assign different privileges for each databases.
Database Auto-Mounting myBase maintains a AutoLoadList.ini config file which contains a set of .nyf database file names to be loaded at the server startup, Also, myBase client program defaults to automatically mount all available databases on server and list all outline items in the tree view when you login to the server.
Remote Database Opening Beside myBase server's AutoLoadList.ini config file, administrators can also open(close) a remote database which resides on server computer within myBase client program.
Customizable Connections Number By default, myBase server allows up to 32 simultaneous connections made to the server, although you can customize this number by editing the "SsgServerCfg.ini" config file.
Session Management Administrators can view/kill active sessions within myBase client program in a GUI manner.
Freeform Tree Outline You can store and arrange your information in a freeform outline, and can edit them conveniently, read your data in an easy-to-use and intuitive interface which looks like the Windows Explorer. This freeform outliner will greatly help you set your data free and also keep your data in order.
Powerful RTF Editor The integrated Rich Text editor accepts RTF information , including images, OLE objects, and even binary files. You have the convenience of setting text attributes (font name, size, color, style) and paragraph attributes (alignment, bullet style, indent, line-spacing, paragraph-spacing, etc.). The editor is UNICODE version and supports Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese, etc. Moreover, the editor supports URL detection, Undo/Redo and a number of other useful text utilities.
Unique Attachment Storage The attachment box has the capability to store any kind of documents/images and even binary files. It's very similar to Email Attachment. You can Add/New/Rename/Comment/View attachments, and even edit the stored documents.
Web Browse Support myBase embeds the Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE), this enables you to view a web page or a graphic inside myBase without launching external programs.
Full-text Searchable myBase has the ability to search whole database as Google does. You can specify range, directions and relevant options. More importantly, it supports advanced search options with Boolean Expression, so you can input your words in following condition boxes: "With the exact phrase", "With all of the words", "With at least one of the words" and "Without the words". All found items can be either listed out in a found-list or hilighted and focused instantly.
Data Compression myBase integrates the popular ZLIB compression algorithm. All information including notes and attachments are compressed and then stored in database.
Large File Support myBase is built on the SSG module which definitely supports large file. In theory. In theory, file size of a single database can be up to 2GB. myBase server can open up to 2G .nyf database files simultaneously. So the total database size on a single server computer can be very very large (up to 2G*2G in theory).
Auto Backup myBase Server offers the "Backup periodically" option. You can customize the server's backup interval by editing the "SsgServerCfg.ini" config file.
