m2:Server SMS Gateway/Proxy Server
m2:Server SMS Gateway has been created to provide your organization with an extensible, easy to use platform for SMS message exchange.
Designed for the demanding enterprise environment, m2:Server enables businesses to extend their existing messaging systems to send and receive SMS messages.
Here are some key features of "m2 Server":
· 2-Way Messaging (E-mail to SMS and SMS to E-mail) SMS messages can be sent using a standard e-mail client. The process is so transparent, no additional end user training is required. Mobile users are able to send SMS messages to specific e-mail addresses as well as reply to existing messages. m2:Server will intelligently route the message to the appropriate recipient. · SMTP Server Integration m2:Server seamlessly integrates with your existing SMTP mail server through simple configuration options. Once configured, messages are sent and received through the normal process of SMTP mail routing, just like any other e-mail server. · Microsoft Exchange™ and Lotus Domino™ Server Integration m2:Server provides special connectors for integration with Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino Servers. User information can be stored in native directories such as Active Directory for Exchange or the Public Address Book for Domino Server enabling administrators to continue to use their normal administration tools for user management. · Dedicated Messaging Server You do not need to have an enterprise class e-mail system (I.e. Exchange) to use m2:Server. m2:Server can function as a stand alone SMS messaging server providing SMTP access and POP3 accounts for workgroup users. Great for small businesses that want SMS Gateway functionality. · Rules Based Message Processing All message processing is handled by a dedicated Rules Engine. Though the use of rules objects, the administrator can configure items such as Routing, Authentication and Content handling. · Reliable and Scalable Performance To work well in an enterprise environment, m2:Server has built in fault tolerant systems including message queuing with failover and self diagnostics with auto-recovery. It also has extensive event logging and alerting functions which provides the administrator with real-time information of system-wide events. m2:Server can grow with your business needs. Extensive testing has shown that the server application scales very well relative to hardware performance. Add to this the fact that you can add additional GSM devices (up to 16) and you can see m2:Server will service your usage needs well into the future. · Secure and Safe Messaging Security was built into m2:Server from the very first stages of the design process facilitating a safe and secure computing environment. Mechanisms such as user authentication, detecting and minimising denial of service attacks and the use of industry standard data encryption schemes are just some of the key security features native to the m2:Server framework. · Easy and Intuitive Management A consolidated management tool is included which provides the administrator with a centralised console for configuring and managing all m2:Server functions. If you are used to Windows administration via the Microsoft Management Console, then you will feel right at home using m2:Server Manager. · Standards Based Compatibility The server application can be installed on any Windows NT based operating system while the client side Management tool and Reports module will run on any 32bit version of Windows. Since all communication is via TCP/IP, m2:Server will interoperate with existing IP based network environments. · Multiple Database Support m2:Server currently supports MS Access and MS SQL Server databases depending on which version you decide to purchases. · Multiple Language Support Multilingual support is included through the use of Unicode and the UTF-8 encoding scheme. If supported by the end users mobile phone, languages such as Chinese, Hebrew or Arabic can be sent and received through the gateway. Even messages with mixed content can be handled by m2:Server. This functionality is totally transparent to both sender and receiver. · HTTP Web Interface Through the use of Microsoft Internet Information Server™, an easy to use Web interface is also included which enables end users to send SMS messages via any Web browser. · Easy To Use Reporting A powerful reporting tool is included providing IS Managers with real-time information of Gateway usage. Reports can be categorised by User or Department for latter reconciliation with Telco billing information. · Easy Installation and Integration A single setup file is provided for easy point and click installation. Once installed, m2:Server can easily be integrated with your company's existing e-mail systems providing end users with a seamless way of sending and receiving SMS messages. It also provides a framework for developing customised SMS applications.
Requirements:
Minimum System Requirements · Pentium III 500Mhz (or equivalent) · 128 MB RAM · SVGA Compatible Video Card · 50 MB Hard Drive space for installation + additional space for ongoing data storage
Recommended System Requirements · Pentium III 1Ghz (or equivalent) or higher · 256 MB RAM or more · SVGA Compatible Video Card · 50 MB Hard Drive space for installation + additional space for ongoing data storage
· Network Interface Card · One COM port for each connected GSM device · One or more (up to 16) ETSI GSM 07.05 PDU mode or Text mode capable GSM Cellular phones or GSM Modems with an appropriate data cable* · An appropriately provisioned GSM SIM card for each connected GSM device · TCP/IP protocol stack · Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x or later · Microsoft Internet Information Server. (If using the Web interface) · Microsoft Access 2000 (runtime) or later. (If using the m2:Reports module) · Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 or later. (If using SQL Server integration)
Limitations:
· 50 client licenses are granted. This means the SMS connector will only allow messages to be sent to 50 unique target SMS addresses. · E-mail and SMS footers are 'hard-coded' and cannot be edited. These footers will appear in each message sent. These footers can be edited once the product is activated. · Only mobile users in the SMS Address book are authorised to send messages through the gateway. This includes replies. · Any messages from unauthorised (anonymous) senders will be removed from the queue (with appropriate notifications).
What's New in This Release: [ read full changelog ]
· CR#20595 : Implement Multithreaded GGSM Driver
· The underlying design of the Generic GSM Connector has been changed from Event driven to Multithreaded. This change provides numerous benefits; the most notable being better performance particularly when multiple devices are being used. Each GSM device attached to m2:Server now has its own handler thread, this has dramatically improved message processing performance.
· Sending large concatenated messages with multiple devices on single CPU systems have shown speed improvements by a factor of three to four times. Machines with Dual Core or Multi Processor CPUs should achieve even better results.
· CR#20596 : Inbound BusRule 0 Notifies 'No Users...' for each Queue Item
· When the Rules Engine processed SMS Queue Items and the SMS Address Book was empty (with authentication enabled), an Event Log entry was entered for each item processed in the Rules Session.
· Now the Event Log item will be entered only once and the Rules Session aborted.
· Action: Defect Fixed.
· CR#20599 : Processed Segments are included as part of Message Notifications
· The Last Inbound Business Rule would include processed message segments when sending notifications to the Systems Administrator and/or the message sender.
· This behaviour has been changed so that only the reassembled concatenated message is sent to the Systems Administrator while the first message of the message sequence is sent to the originator.
· Action: Defect Fixed.
· CR#20602 : GGSM Driver->READ MESSAGE Function Infinite Loop on Read Error
· If an error was returned from the GSM device while attempting to retrieve contents from memory storage, the function would repeatedly attempt to retrieve the message until an 'OK' response was received.
· Now the READ function will report a failure if an 'OK' response is not returned after 3 attempts.
· Action: Defect Fixed.
· CR#20603 : GGSM Driver->DELETE MESSAGE Function Infinite Loop on Delete Error
· If an error was returned from the GSM device while attempting to delete a message from memory storage, the function would repeatedly attempt to delete the message until an 'OK' response was received.
· Now the DELETE function will report a failure if an 'OK' response is not returned after 3 attempts.
· Action: Defect Fixed.
· CR#20605 : SMS Connector->'Overflow Error' when Sending very large Concatenated Unicode Messages.
· When sending extremely large Unicode based concatenated messages, the SMS Connector would raise an Overflow error if the message length was greater than 16384 Unicode characters.
· Action: Defect Fixed.
· CR#20598 : Outbound BusRule 0 Notifies 'No Users...' for each Queue Item as 'Alert'
· When the Rules Engine processed Gateway Queue Items and the SMS Address Book was empty (with authentication enabled), an Event Log entry of type 'Alert' was entered for each item processed in the Rules Session.
· The Event Type has been changed to 'Warning'.
· Action: Functionality Changed.
