Media Mate

Media Mate is a fresh project that can monitor your favorite TV series and download new episodes. It can also play downloaded shows in its window as well as play online movies by torrent link.

Taking a similar approach to Popcorn Time and Stremio, Media Mate is cross-platform, offering support for Mac, besides Windows. It can monitor TV shows included in the showRSS.info database, showing upcoming episodes and downloading the latest ones.

The tool gets installed quickly and with minimum effort on your behalf. To get started, it's necessary to sign up for a free account on showRSS.info. On the website, you can create a list of favorite TV shows to track and configure feed settings related to the link type (magnets, mirror URLs), namespace, episode name style (raw by torrent client or clean by feed reader), quality, and PROPER/REPACK. The configuration is a bit advanced but can be left to default if you're unsure.

Next, showRSS puts together your custom feed address, which has to be copied and pasted into the downloader section of Media Mate. After submitting the URL, the tool autodetects new episodes, showing a list of everything available. You just have to check the boxes next to the episodes you're interested in, or click a button to get all of them. Before doing so, you can set the preferred downloading directory (default is C:\Users\User\media_matedl).

Downloaded movies can be opened in your associated media player from the file explorer or played in Media Mate viewer. The app builds a library of all downloaded episodes, giving you the possibility to view all their thumbnails and pick the one you're interested in playing. Only standard media controls are available, such as pausing and resuming, seeking position, switching to fullscreen, and adjusting the volume.

The Media Mate streamer is basically a combination of the downloader and viewer since it can play content from magnet URIs (torrents) of online content instead of going through the trouble of downloading it for offline viewing. Keyboard shortcuts are supported. There's also an animated tutorial that demonstrates how the downloader, viewer and streamer work.

Media Mate is unpolished at the moment. For example, it doesn't have buttons for cancelling video downloads and doesn't fetch subtitles (whether for downloading or streaming only). Nevertheless, it's a pretty interesting TV show downloader with a lot of potential.
