Clarity Recorder

Modern technology makes it possible to capture and save an impressive amount and variety of resources, including sound. Most laptops already come with built-in microphones, but there are also specialized ones to plug in your soundboard. To easily capture sound, specialized applications like Clarity Recorder are just what you need.

To be able to install the application, you need to have Adobe AIR on your computer, or grab it otherwise. The setup process doesn’t take much time or effort on your behalf, with the possibility to have the program launched right after.

As far as the visual design is concerned, the application wraps everything inside a classic frame, but elements you encounter are pretty appealing. Most of the space is the waveform feedback which is built in real-time, while all necessary controls are intuitively placed in a lower toolbar. The waveform view can be increased and decreased with the help of a slider.

By default, recording needs to be performed through a dedicated device, such as a microphone. In case you want to capture speaker sound, you need to pay a visit to the system recording devices and switch to stereo mix, because there’s no option inside the application in this regard.

Hitting the record button starts to capture sound in range, building the waveform in real-time. A details field shows the duration, as well as the file size as you’re recording. You can pause, but saving the file is only possible once stopped. Note that the only supported output file type is MP3, and it would have been useful to also see WAV among options.

Taking everything into consideration, we can say that Clarity Recorder is a pretty straightforward recording tool. Similar to Windows Sound Recorder, it’s easy to use, but instead of saving the recording as WAV, this one generates an MP3 file instead.
