Recordster

Recordster is a great name for an application that doesn't really want to innovate. It's a tool, but you've probably guessed that already. What it offers users is a way to record any sound source that's connected to a PC. This means that you can create interesting podcast material for free, simply setting up various aspects of your final product before actually recording.

Although not ugly, only slightly outdated, the interface is pretty clear on what the user's options are. Buttons are clearly labeled, and so are the radio buttons and drop-down menus. Just make sure you understand what each particular setting does. Also, don't forget to input a location for saving your created content. The name of your files can be altered from within the app, simply by changing the Input File Name. In this respect, the app is pretty efficient in the way it was thought out.

Once you're in the clear with your save location, start choosing the record source, master volume, and recorded device level of noise. Decide between WAV or MP3 file formats and Mono or Stereo channels. Frequency and bit rate are also adjustable for the best possible results. The visualizer, situated on the right side of the app can be changed to look different. It won't really matter unless you really like customizing every last aspect. Timed recordings are also a possibility. The menu can be accessed from the bottom of the app's main window. Once, you're clear on what you'd like to say to the world, hit the Record button.

Recordster is not really an application that will blow the user away. In fact, it's quite easy to miss. The competition is fierce, and its aging body seems to complicate things further. If you'd like to use a simple recorder, this app can fit those shoes. Otherwise, modern iterations of this concept will probably suit you better.
