Wave Editor

Wave Editor is a small and portable application which lets you record, play and make some minor adjustments to audio tracks with the Wave format. It can be easily used, even by inexperienced individuals.

The interface of the tool is plain and simple to navigate through. Opening a WAV track can be done by using either the file browser or 'drag and drop' method. Unfortunately, you cannot load multiple entries, in order to create a playlist.

You can record audio from the speakers after specifying the sample rate, channel mode and resolution, make a selection to remove from the track, zoom in and out, select the entire song, as well as hide the toolbar and status bar.

Several customization features regarding the appearance of Wave Editor are available in the 'Settings' area. You can alter the waveform foreground and background color, play cursor color, and invert the selection.

The audio processing program runs on a low amount of CPU and system memory, has a good response time, and supports keyboard shortcuts. We have not come across any problems during our testing; Wave Editor did not freeze, crash or pop up error dialogs in our tests.

Unfortunately, Wave Editor lacks many essential functions. For example, you cannot crop a selection, insert silence or make the program minimize to the system tray area. But we must take into consideration the fact that Wave Editor has not been updated for a very long time; its interface needs some major improvements in the visual department. But, thanks to its simplicity, first-time users should have no issues in getting around its features.
