Jay Brain

Jay Brain is a simple yet comprehensive audio player that not only supports a wide variety of file formats but can also provide lyrics for the tracks, skins for its user interface, and even a command line interface for power users.

Jay Brain is wrapped in an interface that is reminiscent of WinAmp, with a big portion of the window being filled by the playlist editor, which also doubles as a file browser when you want to add individual songs or folders into the current playlist. It supports all the popular formats, from MP3 to WAV, OGG, AAC, M4A, MP4, AC3, MIDI, as well as many other lesser known file types.

The editor also enables you to remove tracks, either individually or as a whole, and is even capable of deleting dead entries, so you don't have to sift through the entire list.Towards the bottom of the window, you have the regular playback buttons with Previous, Play, Pause, Stop, and Next. You can also see the time left of the current song and its complete duration. Last but not least, there's the volume slider, although it doesn't come with any signs, just a round circle that you can interact with using the mouse point.

Jay Brain also comes with various sound effects that can be accessed through the FX button. You can change the tempo of a song, its pitch, echo, or reverb, as well as tweak the bass, mid, and treble levels. You can push the Lyrics button to automatically check out the verses of the currently playing song.

The player also comes with a button to keep it above all the other windows and can be minimized to run from the system tray. During out testing, however, we observed that the main player window can't be moved from the main monitor to a secondary one.

Overall, Jay Play is a solid program that can not only play a wide variety of song formats but also comes with effects that can be applied to the tracks and a simple interface that won't confuse newcomers.
