MidiPlay is a small software application whose purpose is to help you play MIDI files, check out the scores from MIDI files, as well as configure audio settings in order to alter the playback mode. It can be deployed on all Windows flavors out there.
This is a portable program which makes it the perfect candidate for being stored on USB flash drives or other portable devices. Gaining access to its features requires only opening the executable file. You may uninstall it via a simple deletion task, as it leaves no traces in your Windows registry.
MidiPlay reveals a well-structured suite of features. However, you still need to dedicated some of your time in order learn how to work with the utility because the set of features may seem a bit overwhelming at a first glance.
A help manual is not included in the package which means you need to learn how to work with the dedicated parameters on your own. You may appeal to tooltips for viewing short descriptions about the tool’s functions. They are revealed each time you hover your mouse cursor over a specific parameter.
MIDI files can be added in the working environment using the built-in browse button or drag-and-drop support. You can make the application show a score that contains all tracks or reveal scores for each individual audio file into separate windows.
When it comes to MIDI playback capabilities, you are allowed to play or stop the current selection, repeat songs, configure the volume levels, set up the instruments (e.g. clarinet, guitar, bass, pipe, violin), as well as adjust the running time, relative tempo, and tempo.
Other important configuration settings worth being mentioned enable you to tweak output devices, make the score appear smaller or bigger in the main window, choose between several preset beats or manually add new ones, and play the virtual MIDI keyboard.
What’s more, you are allowed to print data, generate HEX data for the current MIDI file, filter MIDI events, stop all notes, display key and time signatures, and turn off all output devices.
MidiPlay comes packed with several powerful features for helping you check out MIDI files on scores and modify MIDI audio settings. However, you need to invest extra time in order to get used to working with it.
