Winamp remains one of the biggest names in the software market, and no matter how hard other developers would try, it’s extremely difficult to steal Winamp’s leading position.
Those who find the full Winamp package a bit overwhelming since it includes so many tools can always try the Lite version that still has a lot to offer.
Winamp 5 Lite comes, of course, as a lightweight package because the developer has excluded some of the advanced features included in the standard installation kit.
Still, the application is able to play all media formats, in the same way the king Winamp does it, and comes with the same great interface we’ve seen since version 3.0.
The installation process takes only a few seconds and you’re guided through a file association procedure that help you choose the formats to be handled by Winamp from the get go.
Of course, Winamp 5 Lite continues to feel great and although some of the main features are missing, we haven’t found too many issues during our tests.
In other words, Winamp 5 Lite can very well serve as your default media player, and in case you don’t really need them, you will forget about the other things the full package has to offer.
All things considered, Winamp 5 Lite follows the same path to success as its bigger brother, so you should definitely be okay with it if you give it a try. It’s freeware so you won’t have to pay a dime for it.
