Softpedia Editor's Review for SHOUTcast DSP Plug-In for Winamp
|
Adds broadcast ability to the Winamp software
Written by Bogdan Popa on October 26th, 2011
Setting up an online radio station might sound like a very difficult job, but with SHOUTcast it all comes down to a few mouse clicks.
In essence a simple Winamp plugin, SHOUTcast DSP Plug-in is able to convert the powerful media player we all know Winamp is into an advanced streaming app that can let other users connected to the Internet listen to your music.
Installing the plug-in is as easy as pie and you shouldn’t really spend more than a couple of minutes before you’re ready to go.
Setting it up might be a bit more difficult, but keep in mind that you might have to enable the plug-in from Winamp’s preferences. Also, it only works with Winamp 5.5 or newer, so having the latest version of the player is a must.
The interface could be a bit overwhelming at the first glance, but the Internet is just full of tutorials that show you the way you should use SHOUTcast.
We’ve managed to configure the whole thing in just a few minutes with absolutely no errors encountered during the process, but we’ve heard about a lot of users who struggled to initiate a connection.
In case that happens to you too, try disabling the firewall or check if the port you’re using in SHOUTcast is not blocked by your ISP.
All in all, SHOUTcast DSP Plug-in is more than a simple add-on for this popular media player and in case you’re looking into setting an online radio station, this one should be your number one pick.
