VUmeter is a compact utility that allows users to accurately measure and keep an eye on the sound inputs received by your computer's sound card via any built-in or external microphone.
Before we go even further, it's worthy of pointing out that this application is designed to work on older versions of Windows leading up to XP (including), namely Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000.
The whole purpose of this user-friendly and useful piece of software is to help its users notice when the sound levels spike and, therefore, create distortions in the audio recordings.
In order to deploy this application on their computers, users are only required to undergo a typical, wizard-based procedure.
Once installed, the utility displays two simple volume channels for stereo recordings, scaled from 0 to -50dB. Users are also provided with the possibility of controlling the fallback visualizations.
That said, from the lower part of the main window, they can pick on of two existing self-explanatory options: slow and fast. It almost goes without saying that the slow mode might prove a bit more useful for most users since the peak levels are somewhat better visible.
