Pymaxe is an application that you can use to download music and videos from various media-sharing websites, including YouTube.
The user interface of the program is easy to navigate through. You can get started by inputting the URL and by pressing the "Enter" key.
Right below the search box, you can view the title and length of the audio or video track you're trying to download.
So, you can preview it in a built-in or external media player, as well as open its web page.
Once you've hit the "Download" button, you can select the output name, destination and format (no conversion, MP3, AAC, OGG, AVI, MPEG, MP4, PSP video, DVD compatible), as well as browse for other folders by using a treeview.
In the "Downloads" tab you can view all tasks that have been completed or which are currently running, along with their output path and progress.
In the "Preferences" menu, you can set Pymaxe to download covers from the Internet, automatically check for updates and open downloaded files. But you can also set the default downloading directory, configure Pymaxe plugins, and more.
The program takes up a moderate amount of system resources and is able to quickly complete a task without freezing, crashing or popping up any errors. The image and sound quality in the output files is excellent.
Although the program is extremely easy to use, Pymaxe doesn't come with a help file. The program ran smoothly during our tests, but we would have liked to be able to download media from more websites (e.g. Vimeo) and in other formats as well (e.g. FLAC). Otherwise, Pymaxe is a very stable software and we strongly recommend it to all users.
