VolControl is yet another volume-controlling application for individuals who'd like to have the ability to adjust the sound intensity with a key combination. The app can also display a sound-level pictogram that will look stylish and keep you informed regarding sound level. The app is small and does not nag the user in any way, both great points for actually using this app before any of the competition.

The app manages to explain quite easily how the key combination thing works. While there is not a lot of variety in choosing the appropriate combination, one can choose the Meta Key, which is basically the first key you press in a hotkey combination. The second key in the combination has already been mapped by the developer to Up, Down, and Left, corresponding to one specific sound-adjusting action. You can also choose to switch from assigning hotkeys to using the media buttons, where present.

Another cool feature when talking about this app is the modern-looking audiometer, an element that does give your machine that media server aspect. It appears at the bottom of your screen and is fully customizable. The Meter Appearance tab will guide you through a series of color choices as well as potential positions for the element itself. Regardless of the choice, you're bound to have your unique-looking audio meter bar, something you could brag about to your friends. Every time you crank the volume up, this bar will show you the percentage to which you've altered the sound intensity.
