AudioShell

AudioShell is a lightweight application that integrates a tag editor and file renamer into the Windows Explorer context menu which let you modify metadata and change the name of multiple media files at the same time.

It offers support for a bunch of audio types like MP3, WMA, M4A, OGG, APE and FLAC, as well as for some videos (e.g. , MP4, WMV, ASF, 3GP).

This type of program can be quite helpful for those who usually spend countless hours arranging the ID3 information of their audio tracks using various and high-demanding specialized programs.

Once the program is installed, you can open its right-click menu in Explorer and either bring up the "Properties" dialog or open a submenu. For starters, you can inspect audio properties, such as the duration, bit rate, encoder and size of the respective track.

When it comes to tags, you can modify a wide array of information, including genre, rating, album, compilation type, lyrics and cover art, clear all metadata, or extract existing artwork to file. Tags can be changed for one file or multiple selected tracks at a time, in case you want to share any pieces of information between them.

As previously mentioned, the app also implements a batch file renaming function. It can be easily used and lets you apply file masks with patterns to take into account for automatic tasks. These masks can be saved as profiles and later reused.

The small tool is not a concern to the computer's overall performance, as AudioShell requires a very low amount of CPU and system memory to function normally. It didn't cause us any difficulties during our evaluation, such as hanging, crashing or displaying error dialogs. The bottom line is that this program offers a pretty straightforward solution to editing tags and bulk renaming files via the right-click menu in Windows Explorer.
