ID3Tidy

ID3Tidy is a Java-based utility that enables you to edit the ID3 tags of multiple MP3 audio tracks at the same time. It can also rename files by taking into account user-defined patterns with tags.

As long as you have Java installed, you don't need to set up anything else. You can drop the downloaded executable file in any part of the hard disk or copy it to a removable storage unit, in order to directly launch the application on any PC with Java.

ID3Tidy is wrapped in a user-friendly interface made from a large window that displays all settings available, including the customizable filename pattern, tag trimming and deleting options, as well as software update checker.

You can get started by adding MP3 tracks or M3U playlists. Worth noting is that you can add one or more selected files from various parts of the hard disk, as well as import a folder to automatically add all containing MP3 and M3U files. Any entries can be removed from the joblist, as well as re-arranged in another order.

If you select an entry, you can view its current ID3 tags. It's possible to edit the artist, title, album, genre, year, track or comment, as well as to trim or delete them. M3U playlists can be saved with absolute or relative paths, while patterns can be put together for renaming the files using any tags.

We haven't come across any stability issues in our tests, thanks to the fact that the program didn't hang, crash or prompt error messages. It left a small footprint on system resources, running on low CPU and RAM.

On the other hand, ID3Tidy's options are not that intuitive for inexperienced users. Nevertheless, you can test the app for yourself, since it's free.
