Capturing screen activity isn't only about keeping an eye on activity or for surveillance. With the abundance of activities that can be done on a computer, you might want to make up collages, tutorials or just try to prove a point by capturing everything on screen or just portions of it. Windows puts a basic method at your disposal and even your keyboard is equipped with a dedicated button, but applications like Grabber2k Lite Edition help you do so in a more efficient manner.

Accommodation is not an issue, with the application's cleverly simple design making sure you know your way around. Most space is dedicated to previewing captured images, while the upper toolbar is fitted with some controls, but not all of them and this cuts out a bit of practicality.

This is because the application is able to take snapshots in up to six different ways, and you have to go to the settings menu each time you want to switch modes. It would have been nice to be able to configure hotkeys, especially because these can come in handy for various tasks, with modes like area, object, window or the entire screen.

A few accessibility options are at your disposal. As such, you can choose one of the available trigger keys from a drop-down menu. There are only a few buttons, with no options to add custom values. You can make the application save the image after a specific number of seconds from the moment you press the trigger key.

For enhanced flexibility, there's the possibility to specify a default destination folder for captured images so you're not prompted each time. You can tweak naming settings to add a prefix, increment method, number sequencing, as well as output format and quality.

The main window doesn't need to be active for the application to work. Simply leave it hidden in the system tray, configure it for minimum effort and start capturing. Sadly, you need to use external applications if you want to modify images or add effects, because the screenshot is provided as is.

Although pretty light and comes with no editing options whatsoever, Grabber2k Lite Edition manages to somehow live up to expectations through practicality and ease of use. It can use a little more work, such as configurable hotkeys for modes, but for simple tasks it can be used by anyone, regardless of experience.
